Tahir Khan Dawar disappeared on October 27 and was presumed abducted by militants

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – The brutal murder of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Dawar in Afghanistan is highly condemnable, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor said in a tweet on Thursday.

In a tweet on Thursday, the ISPR DG said that we have lost a brave police officer.

It further said Tahir Dawar s abduction, move to Afghanistan, murder and follow up behaviour of Afghan authorities raise questions which indicate involvement or resources more than a terrorist organisation in Afghanistan.

While investigations by Pakistani authorities are in process, we reiterate that Afghan security forces to cooperate in border fencing and bilateral border security coordination to deny use of Afghan territory against Pakistan, the statement added.

Earlier, the body of martyred Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Dawar was handed over to Pakistani officials.

The body was received at the Torkham border from Afghan officials by Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi, Shaukat Yousafzai, Mohsin Dawar, Deupty Commissioner Khyber and other security officials.

On Wednesday, Afghanistan Foreign Ministry had confirmed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) police missing official Tahir Dawar was killed Nangarhar province, stated Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Faisal.

Faisal added that the corpse of ill-fate police official was first seen by people of Afghanistan’s district Dur Baba. “Afghanistan Foreign Ministry informed Pakistan’s embassy about the recovery of the dead body of Tahir Dawar. The dead body also contain service card of late SP Dawar”, added spokesperson.

Faisal furthed added that dead body of deceased had not been handed over to Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in Jalalabad. “The dead body will be shifted to Pakistan through Torkham border after completion of the legal procedure”, Faisal told media personnel.

Tahir Khan Dawar disappeared on October 27 and was presumed abducted by militants. The case baffled authorities as Islamabad is one of the safest cities in Pakistan.

Then, photographs purporting to show Dawar s badly beaten and tortured body surfaced on social media. The body was later found in Afghanistan s volatile Nangarhar province, which borders Pakistan, with a hand-written note saying he was abducted and killed by a little-known militant group.

The Taliban denied any role in the abduction. The body is to be returned to Pakistan on Thursday.
